Rosemina Adoyo Ayieko
Engineering Intern (Medical)
Q&A with Rosemina:
What is your school and major?
I go to Duke University with a major in biomedical engineering.
Why did you want to become part of the Design Outreach team?
I wanted to join Design Outreach because it allows me to integrate my faith with my calling as a biomedical engineering student. I am passionate about using the gifts God has given me to serve underserved communities through meaningful engineering solutions. Design Outreach’s commitment to both technical excellence and caring for people as a whole aligns deeply with the impact I hope to make.
What is it about this ministry that motivates you?
This ministry motivates me because it models a life of offering everything back to God in response to His love. It inspires me to use the education and skills God has given me through biomedical engineering to serve real needs, including in communities like Kenya, my home country. Knowing that my work can reflect both practical care and the hope of Christ deeply motivates me.
What are you most looking forward to about your internship?
I am most looking forward to growing as an engineer by strengthening my technical skills, refining my design thinking, and learning to center patient needs throughout the design process. I am excited to collaborate with other interns and learn from experienced mentors who will help shape my engineering approach. I am also grateful for the opportunity to grow in an environment grounded in service and faith while using my skills wholeheartedly.
What do you do when you are not working?
When I am not working, I enjoy staying active by working out and learning new hobbies like crocheting. I also love spending time with my campus ministry community, whether that is trying new restaurants, playing board games, or spending time together after Bible study. I also value downtime, including a good nap, to recharge.
Who is your biggest hero?
My biggest hero is my mother. Her deep love for God and her compassion for others inspire me every day, as she serves generously and encourages me to trust the Lord and serve Him with my whole heart. She reflects Christ through her perseverance, kindness, and willingness to help others at any time, even when it requires personal sacrifice. Her example has deeply shaped the way I hope to love and serve others, and I am incredibly grateful for her constant encouragement and support.
"Thank you for believing in the vision God has placed on my heart to use my biomedical engineering education to serve His people. Your support encourages me to grow in the gifts He has given me and to offer them back to Him through service. I am deeply grateful for your time, generosity, and belief in this mission. My prayer for you is the prayer of Jabez in 1 Chronicles 4:10, that God would bless you, enlarge your territory, and keep His hand upon you. I also hold onto the promise of Luke 6:38, trusting that the Lord will return your generosity in abundance. Thank you for believing in me and in the mission of Design Outreach. "
