Engineering Intern (Medical)

Q&A with Bennett:

What is your school and major?
Messiah University majoring in biomedical engineering and minoring in mechanical engineering

Why did you want to become part of the Design Outreach team?
I wanted to become part of the DO team because I feel called to provide cost-effective ways to meet medical needs for underserved communities, which is the very reason I chose to study biomedical engineering. I’m continually reminded of 1 Peter 4:10: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.” I believe this internship allows me to live out that calling in a meaningful and practical way.

What is it about this ministry that motivates you?
DO motivates me by providing me a chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus through medical device design. It creates opportunities not only to share the Gospel but also to show Christ’s love in tangible ways to His image-bearers around the world. I love that this ministry unites mission, engineering, innovation, and service.

What are you most looking forward to about your internship?
I am most excited to build on the work I have done through The Collaboratory at Messiah. I’m looking forward to being part of a faith-driven team and diving deeper into the engineering design process, all while working on solutions that directly serve people who lack access to complex medical technologies that many of us take for granted.

What do you do when you are not working?
When I am not working, above everything else, I love to be in God's creation. I love to travel the country and the world, as well as being outdoors in every way, from skiing and hiking the high peaks to spending nights in caves. Other than being outdoors, I love spending time with friends and family, learning the guitar and writing music, and pursuing other new opportunities, endeavors, and experiences.

Who is your biggest hero?
Someone I’ve always deeply admired is my grandfather. He was a gifted entrepreneur, yet he chose to listen to God's calling by becoming a pastor, truly laying down earthly riches and dedicating his life to teaching God’s Word. His willingness to sacrifice worldly opportunities for the sake of the Gospel is something I strive to reflect by keeping Christ at the center of my academics, career, and life.

"Thank you so much for your support and willingness to invest in the work I’ll be doing this summer. I promise to be a faithful steward of your contribution and make you proud of the impact it enables. Above all, I’m trusting God throughout this journey, knowing His plan will prevail. I hold closely the reminder that 'by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.' (Romans 12:1-2)"
