Engineering Intern (WASH)

Q&A with Jonathan:

What is your school and major?
I am a mechanical engineering student at The Ohio State University.

Why did you want to become part of the Design Outreach team?
I wanted to work for Design Outreach because I have a burning in my heart for ALL people to fully and intimately know Jesus Christ. Design Outreach gives me the opportunity to take that longing in collaboration with my interest and experience in engineering and use it to bring glory to God.

What is it about this ministry that motivates you?
Many people see work as a burden or as something that defines their worth, but this was never God’s design. In Acts, we see believers resting in the knowledge of belonging as a child of God, using the ways God had blessed them to meet one another's needs rather than bringing glory to themselves. Design Outreach reminds me of the church in Acts, using the skills and resources that God has given them, not for their own glory, but to meet the needs of others. “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40).

What are you most looking forward to about your internship?
I am ecstatic to get professional and technical experience in engineering and get to work on projects that I know will have a deep impact in the quality of people’s lives whilst also working alongside other believers who have committed to offer their lives as a living sacrifice.

What do you do when you are not working?
When I am not working, I often find myself at various church-related activities, whether that be helping set up or tear down an event or going disc golfing with students I am mentoring. If I am not at church, you can find me doing anything and everything outside, whether that be biking, hiking, swimming, or researching random plants I found during one of my other adventures.

Who is your biggest hero?
I would say that Paul is one of my biggest heroes. I am deeply encouraged by the way that he committed to using every aspect of his life to bring glory to the Father and leading others to complete freedom in the truth of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

"I am incredibly grateful for your prayers and support as I prepare to assist the team at Design Outreach to open opportunities for communities to receive clean and reliable sources of water, as well as affordable and more accessible wound treatment therapies. I am excited to use the ways that God has gifted me to serve others this summer, and I couldn't do this without you. "
